Displaying advertisements often requires “advertisement consent”. The procedures for this are broadly similar to applying for planning permission. Many advertisements on business premises do not require consent, however, particularly if related to the business, not illuminated and displayed below the bottom of first floor windows. The government leaflet, “Outdoor advertisements and signs: a guide for advertisers,” explains in detail when advertisements require consent – see https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/11499/326679.pdf.
